Mr. Toad takes his last wild ride at Walt Disney World. The popular Fantasyland Attraction is scheduled to close after this day.

September 8, 1905 - Animator/cartoonist Lynn Karp is born. He worked as an animator on such Disney films as "Pinocchio" and "Fantasia."

September 8, 1955 - Elsa Marquez is welcomed as the one-millionth Guest at Disneyland ... just seven weeks after the Park opened!

September 8, 1994 - The third official Disneyana Convention kicks off four days of fan fun at Walt Disney World.

The inaugural D23 Expo opens in Anaheim, California, for four days of everything Disney. At this, the ultimate fan experience, Guests were treated to the latest from movies, TV, and Theme Parks to the 2009 Disney Legends' Ceremony and more.

September 11, 1968
The United States Postal Service pays tribute to Walt Disney with the release of a commemorative 6-cent postage stamp. The stamp features a portrait of Walt surrounded by the children of the world emerging from Sleeping Beauty Castle in the background.

September 11, 1892
Pinto Colvig, known as the "Dean of Hollywood Voicemen," is born in Jacksonville, Oregon. He will go on to lend his voice to such classic Disney Characters as Goofy, Pluto, and Sleepy & Grumpy from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

September 14, 1935
Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie Mouse since 1985, is born in California. She is married to Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey!

September 15, 1955
Bruce Reitherman, the voice of Christopher Robin in "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" and Mowgli in "The Jungle Book," is born. He is the son of Disney film director Wolfgang Reitherman.

Nicholas "Nick" Jonas, the youngest member of the band Jonas Brothers, is born.

September 18, 1928
Walt Disney's "Mickey Mouse" trademark application is granted.
September 21, 1909
Ruth Patricia Shellhorn is born in Los Angeles, California. Three months before the opening of Disneyland, Walt Disney will ask her to contribute her talents as a landscape architect to his new Theme Park.

September 23, 1938
Disney's Mickey Mouse cartoon "Brave Little Tailor" is released. The most elaborate and expensive Mickey Mouse cartoon ever produced to date, it was nominated for an Academy Award®.

September 23, 1971
The Dapper Dans barbershop quartet debuts at the Magic Kingdom's Main Street. The group has been a Park staple
ever since.


 


September 24, 1934 Animator Frank Thomas begins his career at the Disney Studios. He will go on to become one of Walt's Nine Old Men and a Disney Legend.

September 29, 1958
The band Firehouse Five Plus Two, made up of Disney employees including Harper Goff, Ward Kimball, and Frank Thomas, releases their album "Firehouse Five Plus Two - 16 Dixieland Favorites."

September 30, 2009
Hidden Mickey, the action-adventure novel about Walt Disney and Disneyland, by Nancy Temple Rodrigue & David W. Smith, is released.
